My 10 year old nephew is one of the strongest people I know. He has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. He shouldn’t have to be so strong at his age. But he is. He shouldn’t have to feel anxious so much of the time. But he does. He shouldn’t have to prick his finger multiple times every day. But he has to. He shouldn’t have to give himself injections every day. But if he doesn’t, he could die. He shouldn’t have to grow up faster than his friends. But he is. He shouldn’t have to feel so alone. But he does. He shouldn’t have to deal with aching legs and overwhelming tiredness and he shouldn’t have to feel a sadness inside his little body that no one really understands. But these things and more is what he has to deal with……daily. There is no break for him. Not one day where he can just forget and be who he was before diabetes. As an Aunty of a child with type 1 diabetes, it’s hard to know what to do to make it easier for him. What I CAN do though is raise money to try to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
